Basically, a group of baddies hijack an underground train, ditch all the cars except one, and park it in a tunnel. They then demand ten million dollars within an hour, or they will start executing the hostages, one per minute, until the money is paid. A traffic controller is tasked with being the go-between the police and the hijackers, and as the tick clicks down, the tension and body count starts rising.

The storyline features a kranky old man who wants to realise his lifelong dream of exploring South America, in search of a long-lost adventurer and some exotic animals. He plans on flying there in a balloon-powered house, but didn’t bargain on having a hitchhiker along for the ride. Together they have numerous adventures and a lot of fun, dealing with strange birds, talking dogs and wary adventurers.
