PLETTENBERG Bay has its own running club, which was started three years ago and is growing steadily. Members meet on a weekly basis to run/walk a time trial together and socialise afterwards at their club house… with a view that rocks!

VICTOR Sithembiso Gugushe, 30, started training with Plett Athletics late last year and has been a club member since January. A pupil at Formosa Primary in Plett before attending Uitkyk High in Kareedouw, he was always keen on sport but started running competitively only recently.

PATRICK Sassin of Plett Athletics Club completed his 10th consecutive Comrades Marathon this year. He ran in a fantastic time of 8hrs 57min and achieved his Bill Rowan medal and permanent Comrades number (awarded to those who complete 10 races).

PLETT athletes did extremely well in this year’s Two Oceans races – all who entered the marathon and half-marathon managed to finish. In the 56km ultra-marathon, Victor Gugushe was the first Plett athlete home in an excellent time of 4hrs 25min 27sec, finishing 393rd out of an overall 7000 entrants – a remarkable achievement for someone competing in his first ultra.
