Timber Two seeks ‘amicable settlement’ in sawmill saga

FOLLOWING a judgement handed down in the Cape High Court, Timber Two Processors of Plett were required to cease operation of a commercial sawmill in June 2008. Closure of the sawmill meant that 67 people were retrenched, all of whom have been without work since.

New body to remedy Bitou’s ailing health system

CO-OPERATION between members of the public and staff at Plett’s clinics is set to alleviate problems associated with the ailing health system in Bitou. Clinics are said to be short-staffed and inadequate to cope with a disproportionate work load.
This situation has in the past seen patients turned away without receiving proper medical attention. But the recently formed Kwanokuthula Health Committee, comprising members of local NGOs, health services providers and the public, promises light at the end of the tunnel.
