Fire heroes battle blazes, exhaustion

FIRE-FIGHTING heroes yesterday told of their exhausting battle against the infernos blazing across the Garden Route. Most of the fires plaguing the region, from Haarlem in the east to Still Bay in the west, were brought under control yesterday, but a blaze near Homtini in the Knysna area was racing towards farmland and buildings by early evening.

Fires devastate huge areas of Garden Route

AT least 6000 hectares of mainly indigenous fynbos have been destroyed by wildfires sweeping across the Garden Route, and firefighters were still battling last night to contain a number of massive blazes that were raging out of control.
